Formula for an Autumn Day

Life has changed quite a bit lately. And I mean, aside from the obvious colors changing in the treetops and summer flowers having their last blooms.

October’s been warm. Which means the gales of November are well on their way. It’s also been busy. Which means by the time this hits the blog, it’ll likely already be early November.

Some winter prep in the garden, I’ve got beets and onions going. And my roses and marigolds are holding on despite the few frosty nights we’ve had. This was my third year gardening – second in garden beds rather than containers only – and its been the best one yet.

I’ve cleared out the rest of the tomatoes, the bell peppers, the hot peppers, squash and herbs. I think I’ll do a cutting of my coleus bushes and my rosemary and try to grow them inside over winter.

We’ve gone to the historical village, and had hot cider on a cool day.

Then off for a hike on a local trail, to see the changing leaves up close and away from the noises of the busy streets.

We’ll probably head out on the trails again, sometime before the holidays to get a last dose of deep, fresh air before it’s too cold to go on long hikes. My favorite local spot has high hills, marshes and ponds so it gives a bit of variety and plenty of green therapy.

Fall always feels like the start of a new year for me. Fresh and full of beginnings. So, this time feels extra special. The coziness and the quiet. The burst of energy for Halloween, then Thanksgiving. Sweaters, and boots, and beanies. All of the best things.

Until next time,

LBD.
